In the Fertility series, we follow a group of college friends through their lives and into the next generation. The story begins in the 1970’s and continues to the year 2050 and tracks the decline of the modern era and the emergence of the next As the health of the human species and all species decline due to humanity’s galloping consumption of the body of life, the friends find their way forward and lead the grassroots transformation that may enable the survival of evolved life. Along the way, they give birth to babies, brain children, spirit children and art while navigating profound changes in trade, medicine, housing, social justice, sexuality and all aspects of life.

This series is designed to empower the reader with ideas and methods that can be used to better identify and address our present problems, and to craft local grassroots solutions that will enable life on earth to survive modernity.

Book 1: Melissa’s Match – GREAT SOCIETY

It’s the early 1970’s Melissa and her friends begin their first year of college in the inner city of Chicago at a time when post assassination riots, Great Society scholarship programs, and veterans returning from Vietnam create sometimes explosive confluence of urban and rural, rich and poor, white and black, educated and uneducated coming of age in a violent, unjust, and hopeful time that illuminates the shadows of war and the tragic limitations of colliding ideologies and ambitions.

Book 2: Connie’s Conception – AWARENESS OF PERIL

It’s the late 1980’s and Connie Martin, a doctor working for the Epidemiology Intelligence Service of the Centers for Disease Control is called to Colorado to investigate an alarming outbreak of birth defects. Born to a single mother in the San Luis Valley as Consuela Martin, a name known only to close friends and to her beloved gamer and programmer husband, arrives as an unknown. Joined by environmental activists who suspect the state’s superfund sites, doctors and patients who fear for the children of the state, Connie attempts to discover a link between habitat destruction ans the lives of innocents.

Book 3: Melissa’s Malady – END OF MODERNITY

It is almost the year of the millennium, and Melissa meets her old friends Sarah, Doug, and her first and only true love John for a college reunion in Hyde Park. All four are in the midst of their careers. All struggle with the compromises that have marred their happiness. All wish to change the world, each in a different way. Sarah has left her government job for a new life as a yoga teacher. Doug is helping to birth a new value based economy. John is a successful academic doctor. Melissa is ailing. The friends unite to turn John’s success as a researcher to the solution to Melisssa’s mysterious chronic illness. What they find will change their lives and imperil the world.

Book 4: Colette’s Creativity – SACRED AND PROFANE

As Melissa struggles, her childhood friend Colette’s marriage is failing. Reluctant to give up on any hope of happiness, she leaves her home in Maine, and flies to Melbourne to stay with an Aussie friend Reggie who seems to know the secret of joy. Colette meets people and joins in the lives of striking individuals who lead her to view sexuality as a manifestation of the sacred. Book 5: Colette’s Community – THIRDS BETH

Soon after Colette and her co workers find a new home, an old boyfriend of Melissa’s who is sojourning in Australia calls and expresses his desire to visit. Colette decides to try out a new visionary visitor package on him, he reveals that Melissa has sent him to check on Colette. As they get to know each other, they see that despite differences in religion, origin, and experience, they are on very similar spiritual paths. When it is time for Randall to go home, they commit to a Tantric consort practice and Colette joins him in Chicago. When he becomes caught up in his old life. Colette returns to Australia and the dream she and Reggie shared of giving birth to a sacred community.

Book 6: Pilgrim Minds – DAMAGED LANDSCAPE

It is 2050, and Melissa has gone to the hospice of her clinic to die in peace. Her son Aaron goes to visit her and finds her radiant as she speaks with a stranger. Melissa surprises Aaron with a last minute dying request that he go back to Salish Sea from their home in Iowa. There her old friend Sarah will give Aaron his legacy. Before she can explain Melissa dies. Disturbed by the turn of events, Aaron leaves on horseback to go on pilgrimage through a damaged landscape. In Denver, he meets the wife of his estranged brother and agrees to take his niece Rafaela away from dangerous company. As they head West, they get to know each other. Aaron becomes her father figure, and Rafaela becomes the daughter he never had.

Book 7: Aaron’s Legacy – SYNCHRONIZATION

When Aaron and Rafaela have settled into the community that was founded by Melissa’s friends based in part on her medical philosophy, they begin to find their places and their life partners. Rafaela pursues initiation into adult life that she delayed in Denver, and Aaron is asked to take his mothers place by bringing her wisdom to the community. With the aid of his consort Pavarti, and the obstacles of his unfamiliarity with the community’s ways and the consequences of his travel through an unmarked poisoned landscape. Aaron forms the legacy that will sustain the community when Sarah is gone.
