  • A path for wellness or prevention that enhances body mindfulness and awareness of context and its consequences.

Emerging Self Care

As modern ways of life become ever more destructive to humans and their habitats, chronic illness increases in prevalence. At the same time, doctors who are drowning in data are obliged to be “efficient” by giving up time to think. Patients have no alternative but to step up and guide their own care and cure, which is good news for those made sick by the ubiquitous poisons produced by modern technology. We who suffer ill effects due to the cumulative impact of our daily poison cocktail on our organs – as modified by our metabolism must in any event detect the sources of our woes and seperate ourselves from them. By doing an “N of 1” study in which we monitor our signs and symptoms while eliminating potential hazards one at a time, we can – if we use our wits – cure ourselves. (See Cure for more.)

Emerging self guided care supports this search for cure. This form of care is syncretic, comprehensive, contextual, human-scale, sustainable, and transformative. It acknowledges that we can only be as healthy as our habitats, and as the whole body of life. It enables us to know our bodies, and our ways of being, becoming, and doing, and to re-pattern them so as to effectively care for life from the inside out. This costs time, purpose, and motivation rather than money or scarce natural resources; and eases pain and suffering slowly and progressively rather than suppressing the body’s response to hazards and patterning continuing damage with co dependence on a system of care that cannot solve your problems. Emerging care is best supported by a care team that includes: an MD, or DO; a body worker who does hands on healing( e.g physical therapy, Reiki, Shiatsu and so on) or who teaches healing movement ( e.g yoga, or Qi Gong); a counselor (ideally a therapist with a masters degree in psychology and divinity); and a habitat restorer. This team should be able to support our use of the Chronic Owner’s Manual, and to support group sessions that allows participants to make the most of our lives and their past experiences. The support team can also recognize when modern resources may be of use to you. Emerging self care is facilitated by a new umbrella paradigm of the body (awareness, understanding, perceptions, sensations, energy, flesh doctors can pass by organ system and interbeing.) ; a new view of the human body as nested in the body of the species habitats, and the body of life; and of self care as purposefully mediated by the intangible and subjective.
