Biofiction

“Humans cannot create a living future for the planet without narratives that pattern what is possible.”

Biofiction

Living Future Books invites submissions of flash fiction, short stories, and novels in the innovative genre of biofiction. The purpose of biofiction is to engage human creativity in the transformation of late modern mainstream medicine through narratives that model the treatment of human illness with the habitats and biome on which they depend for survival and thriving.

To this end, creative writers, physicians, and futurists are invited to speculate on the development of grassroots movements that foment habitats of restoration and integration under present conditions, and that thereby succeed in preventing human extinction–which, of necessity, includes the preservation of life on earth.

The premises behind each work of biofiction include:

  • A biocentric worldview centered on local, living systems
  • The understanding that behavioral change and social evolution are critical to solving emerging problems
  • The perspective that individual humans of today’s Anthropocene Era are active agents in the creation of a Living Future

Submitted novels will be considered for the Living Future Books Biofiction Prize for the narrative and presentation that best epitomizes the purpose of this new genre.
